Contents of fire starter kit

  • Metal box with hole for making more charcloth.
  • 5 pieces of charcloth in plastic bag
    (kit can be used to make more charcloth)
  • Keytag with instructions and serrated blade.
  • Block of magnesium

Instructions for using the fire starting kit

  1. Collect tinder (twigs, paper, cotton lint) and wood into a pile nearby.
  2. If not using charcloth, shave magnesium (silver edge) into a pile using serrated edge of blade. (Skip this step if using charcloth.)
  3. Scrape the smooth edge of the blade along the black sparking insert to create a spark on the charcloth or magnesium pile.
  4. Add tinder, then wood, to build fire.

Instructions for making more charcloth

  1. Remove all items from metal tin.
  2. Place piece of cotton in to metal box (e.g. small section of an old T-Shirt).
  3. Place tin into fire or on a stove.
  4. Leave approximately 15 minutes for piece of cotton to become charcloth.
